Architecture Portfolio Website: Redesigning Smarx for a Growing Project Collection
Smarx Architecture needed more than a visual refresh. Their existing website was outdated, difficult to manage, and made adding new projects unnecessarily complicated.
We redesigned and developed their architecture portfolio website in WordPress, creating a more visual and structured experience for showcasing architecture and interior design projects, while making the website easier for the Smarx team to manage as their portfolio grows.

An Architecture and Interior Design Studio Built Around Its Project Portfolio
For Smarx Architecture, its portfolio is one of the most important parts of its online presence. The North Macedonia-based architecture and interior design studio had a growing collection of projects to showcase, but its existing website was outdated and no longer provided the experience the studio needed.
The problem went beyond how the website looked. Managing the site and adding new projects had become difficult for the owner, while presenting a growing number of projects without making the website confusing for visitors created another challenge.
Smarx needed an architect portfolio website that could give its work a stronger visual presentation, make projects easier to explore, and give the owner a much simpler way to keep the portfolio updated as new work was completed.
This keeps the section focused on the background and situation before the redesign. We won’t get ahead of ourselves by explaining WordPress, Mrittik, 360°, SEO, performance, multilingual setup, hosting/domain transfer, or the implementation here. Those belong in the later Challenge/Solution sections.

When an Architecture Website Becomes Harder to Manage Than the Projects It Showcases
Smarx already had a website, but it had become increasingly difficult to work with. The design felt outdated, and one of the biggest frustrations was something visitors couldn’t see: adding and managing new projects was unnecessarily complicated for the owner.
For an architecture studio with a growing body of work, that creates a real problem. The portfolio needs to evolve alongside the business, but publishing a new project shouldn’t become a technical task every time the studio completes something worth showcasing.
There was also the visitor experience to consider. As more architecture and interior design projects were added, the website needed a structure that could accommodate them without making navigation crowded or confusing. The goal wasn’t simply to give the old site a different look. Smarx needed a WordPress website redesign that would improve both sides of the experience: how visitors explored the work and how the owner managed it behind the scenes.
That became the starting point for the redesign: create a website capable of growing with the Smarx portfolio without becoming harder to use as it grew.
Organizing a Growing Architecture Portfolio Without Complicating Navigation
Architecture websites are naturally visual, but as the number of projects grows, simply adding more images and project pages can quickly make the experience harder to navigate. For Smarx, the challenge was finding a structure that could accommodate its architecture and interior design work while still making individual projects easy to discover.
The portfolio needed enough flexibility to continue growing without forcing visitors through an increasingly complicated structure. At the same time, the design couldn’t become so focused on organization that it took attention away from the work itself.
There was also the management side of the challenge. A better architecture portfolio website needed to solve the problem for both audiences: visitors needed a clear way to explore projects, while the owner needed a practical way to publish and manage new work without struggling with the website every time the portfolio changed.
That balance between visual presentation, website navigation, and long-term manageability became one of the most important decisions behind the redesign.
Building an Architecture Portfolio Website Around the Projects
The redesign started with the portfolio itself. Instead of treating projects as content that simply needed to fit into a new design, we structured the website around how Smarx needed to present, organize, and continue adding its work.
The result was a WordPress-based website that gives architecture and interior design projects more visual space while keeping the experience straightforward for visitors and manageable for the owner.
A WordPress Website Redesign Made Easier to Manage
We rebuilt the website using WordPress and the Mrittik theme as the foundation, adapting it to the visual direction and functional requirements of Smarx through additional customization and custom code where needed.
Just as importantly, the new setup gave the owner a more practical way to manage the website and add new projects. As the Smarx portfolio continues to grow, the website can grow with it without turning every update into a complicated process.
Structuring the Architect Portfolio Website Around the Work
With a growing collection of architecture and interior design projects, portfolio structure was a major part of the redesign.
We created a clearer way for visitors to move through the work and explore individual projects without the growing collection making the website feel overcrowded. The visual direction remains intentionally project-focused, allowing imagery to do much of the storytelling while navigation and structure work quietly in the background.
Adding an Interactive 360° Experience
Some spaces are difficult to understand through a handful of static photographs alone. To make the portfolio experience more immersive, we integrated interactive 360° room viewing into the website.
Visitors can explore selected spaces from different angles and get a broader sense of the interior rather than being limited to the viewpoints chosen for individual photographs.

Creating a Multilingual Website in Macedonian and English
Smarx needed its work to be accessible in both Macedonian and English, so the website was built with multilingual presentation in mind.
Both language versions maintain the same clear project-focused experience, giving local and international visitors a consistent way to explore the studio, its services, and its portfolio.
Performance Optimization for a Visual Architecture Website
High-quality project imagery is essential for architecture websites, but a visually rich portfolio also needs to remain responsive and practical to use.
We optimized the website with performance in mind so Smarx could showcase its work without unnecessarily compromising the browsing experience. The site was also optimized across desktop and mobile, ensuring projects remain easy to explore on different screen sizes.
Local SEO for Architects and a Stronger Search Foundation
The redesign also gave us the opportunity to improve the website’s search foundation. We implemented on-page and local SEO for architects, optimizing the website around Smarx’s services and location while improving the underlying structure used by search engines to understand the business.
This included relevant on-page elements and local signals for Smarx in North Macedonia, alongside the broader technical and structural improvements made during the redesign.
Your Best Projects Deserve More Than a Difficult Portfolio.
We can help you create a portfolio that gives your projects the presentation they deserve while remaining practical to manage as your studio grows.
From a Difficult-to-Manage Website to a Portfolio Built to Grow
The biggest improvement wasn’t simply how the new website looked. Smarx now has an architecture portfolio website that is easier for visitors to explore and more practical for the owner to manage as new projects are completed.
Architecture and interior design projects are presented through a clearer structure, giving the work room to stand out without making navigation more complicated as the portfolio grows. The 360° integration adds another layer to the experience, allowing selected spaces to be explored beyond traditional project photography.
Behind the visual experience, the WordPress website redesign also addressed the practical problems of the previous site. New projects can be added more easily, the website works across desktop and mobile, performance has been optimized for a visual portfolio, and Macedonian and English versions make the studio’s work accessible to a broader audience.
Combined with the local SEO for architects work completed during the redesign, Smarx now has a stronger digital foundation that can continue evolving alongside the studio and its project collection.

Keeping the Smarx Website Ready for What Comes Next
The project didn’t end when the redesigned website went live. Smarx continues to work with MaTox through ongoing monthly website maintenance, helping keep the site updated and supported as the studio and its portfolio evolve.
For a website built around a growing collection of architecture and interior design work, that continuity matters. As new projects are completed and the portfolio develops, the website has a foundation that can continue evolving with it rather than becoming difficult to manage again.
This one should stay relatively short. We don’t need to force additional keywords here because we’ve already established strong topical relevance throughout the previous sections.
